Huskies Sweep Fairmont State

FAIRMONT, WV--The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a pair of games from Fairmont State on Saturday by scores of 7-3 in nine innings and 3-2.

In the opener, the Huskies and Fairmont were tied at 3-3 at the end of seven innings forcing extra innings. After a scoreless eighth, Bloomsburg put four on the board in the ninth on just two hits with the home team committing four errors in the inning. Mandy Koch (Dauphin/Central Dauphin) had the only RBI in the inning with that coming on a sacrifice fly.

Fairmont held the early lead taking a 2-0 in the bottom of the first. Bloomsburg got a run back in the top of the fourth when Kayleen Sidisky (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) doubled and scored on a single by Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Lewisburg). The Huskies went in front 3-2 with a pair of runs in the sixth with Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) driving home two runs on a double. Fairmont tied the game in the bottom of the sixth setting up extra innings.

Lynn picked up the win for Bloomsburg with six innings of relief. Corliss led the offense going 3-4.

In the nightcap, the Huskies scored all three of their runs in the first inning. Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont/Southern Columbia) singled and later scored on a passed ball, while Jenna Hampton (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) had a sacrifice fly RBI and Natalie Zimmerman (State College/State College) and run-scoring double in the inning.

Fairmont came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, but Bloomsburg's Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) allowed just two hits the rest of the way to pick up the win. Shiko was 3-4 to lead the offense.

Bloomsburg, 12-2, will play Wheeling Jesuit on Sunday at Fairmont State.
